Lanterns was established in early 2008, born out of an idea by Robert, who after a few visits to some local orphanages and a lengthy stay at Huong Duong orphanage, felt a deep desire to help children access continuing education, so they can be the best they can. Lanterns’ is proud of its association with the local orphanages/charity schools & we are committed to helping those in need with many initiatives we undertake. A true sense of community is also felt amongst all of our staff & it is extended to help others less fortunate than us. Visiting and spending quality time with the children is just one small way of giving back to our local community.
ROBERT COSTABILE – owner of Lanterns Restaurant in Nha Trang. A resident of Melbourne, Australia, now spends about half the year in vietnam and half the year in Australia. A regular visitor to Vietnam since 2006, works closely with the various orphanages and less privileged people in and around Nha Trang. Organises the charity programs and decided to start Lanterns as a way to help fianance his dream of doing charity work in Nha Trang and beyond.
NGUYEN PHUONG NAM – from Phan Thiet and the Manager of the day to day operations at Lanterns restaurant. Worked at other restaurants/bars in Nha Trang before we were lucky enough to have here join us at Lanterns. Is responsible for all things relating to the restaurant & the face of Lanterns, which since opening it’s doors has quickly developed it’s fine reputation for fresh tasting Vietnamese food in Nha Trang. She has played the biggest part in turning Lanterns into one of the more popular local restaurants for tourists. She also runs our cooking classes and is an amazing chef in her own right.
PHAN THUY HIEN – originally from Hanoi. Has moved to Nha Trang to oversee the day to day operations of all our charitable and community activities that we run in Nha Trang. A vital link between Vietnam & Australia, she is responsible for monitoring the ongoing progress of all charitable/restaurant work undertaken and also working on new charity initiatives as the circumstances arise. A real favourite with the children from the various orphanages, she is often called 'mother' by many of the kids. Her soft demeanour makes her the ideal person to look after our charity program and another vital link in the Lanterns chain.
